Washington had a clever plan to cross back on Christmas Day. He knew the Hessians would be celebrating on Christmas so that would be a good time to attack. Washington took 2,400 men across the river with around 20 at a time in five boats each. The coast was clear and Washington's army attacked. Almost instantly, people in that town started gathering in with Washington's army and even some women helped! The Hessians must of heard the racket and saw Washington's army attacking the British soldiers. The number of British soldiers was decreasing. Eventually the Hessians retreated back north and Washington's army had won!!!
